Product Description

This attractive red carcaol rug would make an ideal centrepiece for a room, or even perhaps for underneath a glass coffee table. It features the classic caracol (“snail” in English) design, whilst the plain center gives it a slightly more minimalist feel. The various tones of red incorporated in the design are framed by a dark reddish brown border. Hand woven using only 100% wool the detail of the design makes its weaving a very time consuming process, as the bundles of wool constantly have to be changed.
This rug is made using tradional Zapotec methods under the supervision of Don Isaac Vásquez, the man credited with reviving the disappearing pre-Hispanic techniques, along with famous Mexican artist Francisco Toledo.
